REshape Masterclasses 2012: Patient as Partner

Participatory Healthcare: Patient as Partner

Although the Masterclasses are in Dutch, we are happy to provide you with some information about it here. Dutch version can be found here.

Health care is facing enormous challenges. Radboud REshape & Innovation Center is looking for answers to transform to 2.0 – ‘participatory healthcare’ – or as we say in Nijmegen, ‘patient as partner’. Every day in our search we find interesting information, people, innovations, barriers or correct solutions, but we still have many unanswered questions. From the beginning we have shared our knowledge and experience in our network in the form of conferences, articles, lectures and discussions in the broad health care field. And in our REshape program, we always assume that the challenge is greater than Nijmegen, the Netherlands, even larger: a global challenge.

At Reshape Academy, we want to create a place for deepening knowledge ‘onlife’ (a quote from Luciano Floridi in his 2001 TEDxMaastricht talk) about achieving Participatory Healthcare in reality. The direction is clear; it’s time for the next step: how do we get together and produce results? What does this require?

Radboud REshape Academy was created as part of the REshape Innovation Center for accelerating the development of participatory health care with the mission ‘Patient as Partner’. The Center was created by the Board of Directors of UMC Radboud, based on an idea of Lucien Engelen. Our deep conviction is that broad knowledge sharing and networking are important clues for finding solutions to the challenges that we as healthcare organizations face. Therefore we want Radboud REshape Academy open to anyone who actually wants to work to realize Participatory Healthcare. ”To share is to multiply.”

Format: Eight master classes

Radboud’s REshape Academy brings together theory and practical knowledge. Following the successful world premiere of the e-Patient Boot Camp (September 2011) with Dave deBronkart, aka e-Patient Dave, for 2012 we are organizing inspiring master classes on various aspects of Participatory Healthcare. The topics are based on knowledge, experiences, discussions, questions and discussions from our everyday work and people from our network. Leading speakers share their knowledge and experiences. In interactive sessions, case studies are discussed and we provide a platform for ‘lessons learned’ and ‘questions to ask’, from daily practice, throughout the care sector and crossover with business.

In short: after each master class you will have practical tools to get started in your organization, from everyday people ‘with their feet in the mud’.

Radboud REshape Academy is designed for people who have become inspired by the ideas of Participatory Healthcare and want to give concrete form to such organizations. For those who question it up, or have no opinion about it, people who want to follow (below) to see what they do with it.

Who

We are thinking of administrators, supervisors, managers, executives, policy makers, government officials, health professionals, clients, patients, caregivers, prevention, researchers, project managers, communications / marketing, IT people.

We expand the definition of “care organizations” to include everyone who touches or affects the patient: hospitals, mental health, rehabilitation centers, doctors, physical therapists, midwives, home care, child welfare, research institutes, nursing homes, government, developmentally disabled, public health, patient organizations, health insurers, etc. All of them influence what care is, in the patient’s life, so all must understand these changes and make them reality.
